Gatzke Orchard just hosted their Woodstock Revival music festival for the third year where Cornel Fisher was a prominent groovy talent on the scene.

“I love working with the Gatzke Family,” says Fisher. “Their orchard is a very special place in the Okanagan Valley and I continue to create more amazing memories each year. This year Woodstock this year was incredible, not only for all the happy hungry people, but for the music as I was able to perform with my seven year old son Benjamin Moon. An unforgettable experience.”

“Cornel has also been our pizza chef heating up our clay wood burning oven, “GAIA”, on “Feel Good Fridays,” at our weddings and music events,” says Joseph Pinheiro, Event Manager. “I’ve watched him create beautiful gourmet pizza’s then jump on stage for a set and return to a lineup 20 deep of new pizza/music fans. Even at our weddings he adds an extra element of entertainment and authenticity to peoples Okanagan experience on our orchard.

“I can’t wait until July 27th so I can cook and sing for you,” says Fisher. “I’m looking forward to sharing the stories and flavours of some of my favourite Jamaican recipes. It’s going to be a jammin’ good time.”

A Pike & a Grape amidst the cherries!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 7, 2014

Bryan Potvin (The Northern Pikes) and Kevin Kane (The Grapes Of Wrath) to play a handful of acoustic dates together this July including Gatzke Orchard in Lake Country July 20th!

From the mid-80s to the early-90s, The Grapes Of Wrath and The Northern Pikes produced some of the catchiest and most heart-felt singles and videos to come out of Canada at that time. Although the bands shared similar values musically, they only performed on the same bill once during their heydays. Fast forward some 20 years later and the guitarists from each of these bands find themselves living just blocks away from one another in Toronto. This realization led to the two of them getting together to hang out with a couple of guitars for some casual jams, and the conclusion: “this sounds good! Let’s do some shows!”

“We are very excited to have these two great Canadian songwriters and singers to the Big Blue Stage this summer,” says Joseph Pinheiro, Event Manager at Gatzke. “I’ve know Bryan since our PolyGram days together and to have him on stage teamed up with another great Canadian talent like Kevin – I just know the Okanagan is in for a rare treat!”

This pairing presents a special treat for fans of Canadian rock, as Bryan Potvin of The Northern Pikes and Kevin Kane of The Grapes Of Wrath team up to perform their solo material and favorites from both bands, both individually and as a duo (“The Northern Grapes”? “The Pikes Of Wrath”?).

As well as old favourites from their respective back catalogs, Bryan will also be drawing heavily from his just-released debut solo album, Heartbledwhite, while Kevin will be performing several of the songs from last year’s Grapes comeback, High Road, and may slip in a song or two from his next solo project.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear the voices behind so many CanCon classics team up and perform together!

Spirit of 1969 grooves on Oyama orchard

Woodstock Revival III

Oyama, British Columbia – June 9/2014 – In a technicolor sea of tie dye and bell bottoms, love is in the air and so is the scent of patchouli, or is that sage? For the third year in a row, Gatzke Orchards in Oyama will be hosting one of the hippest and grooviest festivals in the Okanagan.

Woodstock Revival III takes place July 4, 5, 6 at Gatzke Orchards, a third generation family-owned and operated orchard in Lake Country.

“For me, our Woodstock Revival is an opportunity to celebrate the little hippy in all of us and all that was good in the late 60s and 70s,” says Al Gatzke. “It’s about a time of innocence and love without the rush, rush, go, go pace of today. It gives me pleasure to revisit my youth once every summer by opening up the farm and sharing experiences with others about those groovy times.”

The setting is idyllic. Double lakeside to both Kalamalka and Wood Lakes. Now with the Pelmewash Parkway open, the little town of Oyama has turned into the hidden jewel of the Okanagan. Guests can camp onsite and enjoy some tasty local food and beverages while checking out some great live music.

Some confirmed artists include JASON BUIE, POPPA DAWG, SABRINA WEEKS, KATHY FRANK, ELLIE JOHNSON, SUGARBUD, LINDA SUE WILSON, DAN ENGLLAND and the SOS HOUSE BAND. Producers are working on some more additions to be announced soon..

“The orchard, music and the people are what makes the Woodstock Revival so special,” says Joe Pinheiro, Event Manager at Gatzke, “Last year I met a lady who missed the original Woodstock in ’69 because she went into labour. Now here she was with her daughter at our Woodstock having the time of her life. It was such a great experience.”

After the success of Woodstock II and the overwhelming enthusiasm from everyone, producers met and started some early planning to return in 2014.

“When I attended the Woodstock Revival at Gatzke Orchards last summer, 2013, it was an event like no other I had attended in many years,” says returning Woodstocker Jody Postma. “For me, it was a complete immersion into the innocent past. No chaos…. it was groovy. It was peace and love. That simple. I left knowing I would be back to replenish my soul with the spirit of Gatzke Orchards Woodstock Revival.”

Tickets are $60 for a three-day pass and $25 for a day pass, available at Gatzke Orchards located on Pelmewash Parkway in Oyama, Lake Country, between Vernon and Kelowna. There is some camping and RV spots still available for the event. This is an all ages event with activities planned for the kids.

Big Night & Shoots 'n Blooms!

While the doors to the fruit stand don’t open until the May long weekend, the GO Event Crew has already been out in full force in Lake Country.

Saturday night we took part in the Lake Country Rotary Club spring fling fundraiser, BIG NIGHT. With proceeds going to the Lake Country food bank, the community came out in numbers and enjoyed an evening of great wine and food.

Gatzke Orchard teamed up with Okanagan’s Finest Foods chef, Travis Hackl. Guests raved about his “Drunken Pigsicles” delicious pork balls on a stick with Gatzke Late Harvest Apple Juice and Jack Daniels reduction! Once they chased it with a glass of our apple juice they were in orchard heaven!

The next day it was our turn to play host as the Food Action Society of North Okanagan had their 3rd Annual Food Festival – Shoots ‘n Blooms, on our orchard.

Over 500 people came through in support of this year’s theme “Family Farming.” Great food from local farmers, cheesemakers, informative presentations in aquaponics, beekeeping and invasive species. Al Gatzke entertained folks in his jam packed farm tours while children were kept busy face painting and petting the rabbits. Chef Cornel Fisher and Ingrid Gatzke had our clay oven “GAIA” pumping out gourmet pizza’s for the hungry crowds and everyone enjoyed the great soundtrack to the day by some fantastic local musicians.

It was a great ‘unofficial’ start to #summer2014 which we are all very excited about. The weekend was a perfect soft launch to announce our GO FOODISM! dinner series which people were eagerly looking forward to here more about….soon! Stay tuned!

Matt Masters debuts at Gatzke Orchard

Matt Masters rolled in to town last night and delivered a fantastic performance at Gatzke Orchard. It was an intimate and appreciative crowd who definitely arrived to hear the warm tone of this Albertan country singer/songwriter. Being from Calgary, Matt shared his perspective on the recent floods as we heard him sing “Centennial Swell,” a song he wrote about the last time Calgary was flooded.

Matt performed songs from his early albums as well as from his recent release “All Western Winners” album plus tracks from the award winning country and western musical, Don Coyote.
The audience was treated to Master’s great repertoire of original country songs and his funny stage banter as he shared many of his great songwriting stories.

Matt Masters is simply a great country music entertainer with one of the warmest vocals in Canada. He is definitely a Western Canada gem that will soon be a household name across the country. It was great to have Matt at the orchard with his wife Amanda and daughter Nora. Enjoy the rest of your travels through BC and we’d love to have you back next summer!

For more information on Matt Masters check him out!
